Koh Rong
Anyone ever stay at Sok San Resort on the other end of Koh Rong? I have never been to Koh Rong. I lived in Phnom Penh from 2002 to 2010, and I don't think it was go-to-able then - or maybe I just missed it. In any case, we are headed back from the US for Xmas and were going to fly in-laws over to Thailand for a full family vacay week (like in Krabi) but that is proving pretty costly for 13 of us with yours truly footing the bill for everyone. So we are trying to see if Koh Rong might be an option. I have read a little on other threads on this site and I am afraid Koh Rong might have an unsavory reputation, but I don't know. We were looking at either Sok San or Anaya. Wanting to not be around, umm, wastoids, since we have impressionable teenagers, and those two seem to be the only possibilities. Would be interested to hear if anyone has stayed at either of these. Thanks!

Brush up on your reading comprehension. It’s clear to me what was being asked for.Beheaded Frenchman wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 3:32 amI have been to Sok San Resort several times. It’s nice.
Did you have a specific question or did you just want to tell us about your Christmas plans and family situation?

Why not go to Koh Chang instead, the money saved on flights could pay for the slightly more expensive accommodation?KraoyVeyang wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 2:25 amAnyone ever stay at Sok San Resort on the other end of Koh Rong? We stayed at a resort on Koh Rong for the New Year (the midweek following, when the rush was over). It was nice, but quiet. The island hasn't recovered from the Covid lockdowns. Not many Westerners have returned, so the reputation pre-2020 is not really valid now. There are more Chinese, who can be noisy, but don't misbehave in the way you're concerned about.
I stayed at Golden Beach Resort right next to Sok San, and it’s a lot more “middle of nowhere” than it looks on the map, and not in an idyllic way. I wouldn’t go up that side again, either stick near one of the main ferry piers or visit KR Samloem instead.
